drifting

The New Forest 'drift' dates back to Henry VIII. Ponies are rounded up for health checks, branding and selection for sale. The ponies are rounded up by the Agisters and Commoners on horseback and taken to a pen for processing. New foals are branded with their owner's mark. Ponies selected for sale are sent for auction at Beaulieu.
